International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) is one of the leading Institutions in research and postgraduate teaching in the

field of population studies and allied areas. IIPS has its origin in 1956 under the joint sponsorship of Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the Government of India and the United Nations. The Institute was declared as a  “Deemed to be University” by the University Grants Commission in the year 1985. IIPS holds a unique position in the field of demographic research and teaching ion the world. The Institute is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

There are seven Academic Departments in the Institute. The members of faculty are drawn from a diverse interdisciplinary background with specialization in some core areas of population sciences or health trained in India or abroad. Currently Institute offers 3 Master’s degree programmes in regular mode and one Master’s degree programme through distance education mode. The Institute also offers Ph.D. and Post Doctoral Fellowship in Population Studies and Bio-statistics. In addition, there are two diploma courses offered by the Institute through National Institute of Public Health Training and Research. The alumni of IIPS are occupying prestigious positions at national and international organisations, universities and colleges, and reputed non-governmental organisations.

The Institute is the hub of a population and health-related teaching and research in India, playing a pivotal role in policy and programme interventions in the broad areas of population and health. IIPS is known for its expertise in carrying out many large scale scientific surveys like National Family Health Surveys (NFHS), Longitudinal Ageing Study of India (LASI), District Level Household Survey (DLHS), Global Youth Tobacco Survey (GYTS) etc.

Institute invites an applications for the following teaching positions in the various departments.


RECRUITMENT CRITERIA FOR THE POST OF PROFESSOR Scale of pay:Level 14 of 7 CPC
Age limit for Direct Recruit:          50 years, relaxable in suitable cases.

Educational and other Qualifications required for Direct recruits:

1.  Department of Mathematical Demography & Statistics

Essential:

(i)          Ph.D. in   Demography   or in Statistics/Mathematics/Economics/Biostatistics with specialization in Demography with minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in university/college, and/or    experience in  research at  the university/college, and/or experience in research       at  the  University/National  Level  institutions/industries, including experience of     guiding candidates for research at doctoral level preferably in the field of Mathematical Demography at a University or National Institution.
(ii)         Experience of having successfully guided research students for the award of Ph.D. in Demography and/or at least 10 publications out of which 5 should be in peer reviewed journals in the area of Mathematical Demography.

2.           Department of Public Health & Mortality Studies

Essential:

(i)          Ph.D.  in  Demography/Bio-Medical Science/Environmental  Science/Life  Science/  Statistics/  Mathematics/Public Health/Preventive and Social Medicine/Biostatistics or in any Social Science subjects listed in ICSSR with specialization in Population Studies with minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in university/college, and/  or experience in research at the university/college, and/or experience in research at the University/National Level institutions/industries, including experience of            guiding  candidates  for  research  at  doctoral  level,  and research in Population Studies, preferably in the area of Public Health and/or Mortality at a University or National Institution.
(ii)         Experience of having successfully guided students for the award of Ph.D. degree in Population Studies and/or at least 10 publications out of which 5 should be in peer reviewed journals in the area of Public Health & Mortality.

3.   Department of Population Policies & Programmes

Essential:

(i)          Ph.D. in Demography/Population Studies/Statistics/Management or in any Social Science subjects listed in ICSSR with specialization in Population Studies with minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in university/college, and/or experience in research at the university/college, and/or experience in research at the University/National Level institutions/industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level preferably in the area of Population Policies & Programmes at a University or National Institution.
(ii)         Experience of having successfully guided students for the award of Ph.D. degree in Population Studies and/or at least
10 publications out of which 5 should be in Peer Reviewed journals in the area of Population Policies & Programmes.

4.  Department of Development Studies

Essential:

(i)          Ph.D. in Demography/Population Studies/Bio-Medical Science/Environmental Science/ Statistics/ Mathematics/ Economics/ Health Economics or in any Social Science subject as listed in ICSSR with specialization in Population Studies with minimum of 10 years of teaching experience in university/college, and/or experience in research at the university/college, and/or experience in research at the University/National Level institutions/industries, including experience of guiding candidates for research at doctoral level preferably in the area of Population and Development Studies at a University or National Institution.
(ii)         Experience of having successfully guided students for the award of Ph.D. degree in Population Studies and/or at least
10 publications out of which 5 should be in peer reviewed journals in the area of Population & Development.

Scale of pay : Level 13A of 7 CPC

Age limit for Direct Recruit : 45 Years, relaxable by the Executive Council in suitable cases.

Educational and other Qualifications required for Direct recruits:
Relaxation of 5% will be provided from 50%  55% of the marks at the Masters level to SC/ST/PH candidates and to Ph.D degree holders who have passed Masters degree prior to 19/09/1991.

1.   Department of Fertility Studies

Essential:

(i) Ph.D.   in   Demography/   Population   Studies   /Bio   Medical      Sciences   /   Environmental   Sciences/Life Science/Statistics/Mathematics or in any Social Science subjects listed in ICSSR with   specialization   in Population Studies and with minimum of 8 yrs. experience as a Assistant Professor of post graduate teaching and/or research in Population Studies preferably in the area of Fertility Studies at a University or National Institution. Candidates from outside the University system in addition shall also possess a good academic record with at least 55 % marks or equivalent grade at the Master’s degree level.
(ii)         Experience of guiding research students for the award of Ph.D. in Demography and/or at least 5 publications out
of which 3 should be in peer reviewed journals in the area of Fertility Studies.

2.Department of Development Studies

Essential:

(i) Ph.D   in   Demography/Population  Studies   /Environmental   Science/   Statistics/   Mathematics/Economics/Health Economics or in any Social Sciences subject listed in ICSSR with specialization in Population studies and with minimum of 8 years experience as an Assistant Professor of post graduate teaching/research in Population Studies, preferably in the area of Population and Development Studies at a University or National Institution.  Candidates from outside the University system, in addition shall have at least 55% of marks or an equivalent grade at Master's degree level.
(ii)         Experience of guiding students for the award of Ph.D degree in Population Studies and/or at least 5 publications out
of which 3 should be in a peer reviewed journals in the area of Population and Development.

Scale of pay: Level 10 of 7 CPC

Age limit for Direct Recruit: 35 Years, relaxable by the Executive Council in suitable cases.

Educational and other Qualifications required for Direct recruits:

Relaxation of 5% will be provided from 50% - 55% of the marks at the Masters level to SC/ST/PH candidates and to Ph.D degree holders who have passed Masters degree prior to 19/09/1991.

Preference will be given to candidates with Ph.D and experience of more publications (relaxation for publications may be considered in suitable cases)

1. Department of Population Policies and Programme

Essential :

(i) A Master's Degree in Population Studies/ Statistics/ Mathematics/Management or in any Social Sciences subject listed in ICSSR with specialization in Population Studies with at least 55% of marks or equivalent grade at Master's Degree level.  Candidates, besides fulfilling the above qualifications should have cleared the National Eligibility Test for Assistant Professors conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar Test accredited by the UGC. Only those candidates who have completed their Ph.D under "UGC Act 2009 dated 23/09/2009 on Minimum Qualifications for Appointment of Teachers and other Academic Staff in Universities and Colleges and Measures for the Maintenance of Standards in Higher Education" are exempted from NET.
(ii)         Ph.D in Population Studies and/or 2 publications in peer reviewed journals in the area of Population Policies
& Programs (optional).

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

1. The pay carries all other allowances as admissible to a Central Government employee stationed at Mumbai. The benefits, such as HRA, , LTC, Medical re-imbursement, Transport allowance, children education allowance, New Pension Scheme (NPS), and other allowances as per GoI rule.

2.  Applicants are advised to submit separate applications against each post.

3.Merely meeting the prescribed or minimum qualifications and experience will not entitle any candidate for being called for written test.

4.The Institute reserves the right to restrict the candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable number as decided by duly constituted Screening Committee/s and approved by the Competent Authority.

5.Call letters for attending interview will be sent only to the short-listed candidates by Speed Post/Registered Post/Courier service/e-mail. No correspondence will be made with applicants who have not been short- listed/not called for interview.

6. Reservations for SC, ST, OBC, will be as per Government of India norms as amended from time to time. Candidates applying for the Reserved Posts should clearly state to which category they belong. They must also enclose a Certificate issued by Government Competent authority as proof, without which the applications will not be considered. The Institute follows the Central list in the case of SC/ST, OBCs.

7. After the interview in case of selections the appointment will be provisional and is subject to the community certificate being verified through the proper channels.   If the verification reveals that the claim of the candidate to belong to SC/ST/OBC (non creamy layer) false, his/her services will be terminated forthwith without assigning any further reasons and action will be taken under the provisions of Indian Penal Code for production of false certificate.

8. The SC/ST/OBC-Non Creamy Layer must submit certificate as per format prescribed by the Government of India. OBC certificate (Non Creamy Layer) certificate should be valid for the current financial year April 2021 to March 2022. If the relevant certificates for respective reserved categories are not submitted with the application, the application shall be rejected. Please see the specimen format Annexure III 

9. The Institute reserves the right to relax any of the qualifications, experience, etc., in deserving cases in respect of any post.
Candidates shall not claim it as a right.

10.Canvassing or influencing in any form on behalf of the candidate will disqualify candidature.

11. Experience and qualifications will be reckoned as on the last date of submission of applications.

12.In case of any inadvertent mistake in the process of selection which may be detected at any stage even after the issuance of appointment letter, the Institute reserves right to modify/withdraw/cancel any communication made to the candidate.

13.In case of any dispute/ambiguity that may occur in the process of selection, the decision of the Institute shall be final.

14.The Institute shall have the right to withdraw the advertisement of a particular post(s) or complete advertisement due to administrative reason(s).

15.In case of any dispute, any suit or legal proceedings against the Institute, the jurisdiction shall be restricted to the High
Court, Mumbai.

16.The candidates are required to visit the website www.iipsindia.ac.in of the Institute periodically for any updates on the said recruitment.

17.Applicants  who  are  employed  in  Government,  Semi-Government Organizations  or  Institutions  should  send  their applications THROUGH PROPER CHANNEL else they will be required to produce a NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from their employer at the time of interview. Submit relevant information as provided in Annexure-IV

18.The last date for receipt of applications is – 31-05-2021, the applications received after the last date will be treated as Late application. Delay in receiving applications due to postal reason shall not be entertained. Candidates are advised to send the applications well in advance so that it can delivered IIPS before the last date of receipt of applications.

19.In case of any inadvertent error in the advertisement and in the process of recruitment, which may be detected at any stage, even after issue of appointment order, the Institute reserves the right to modify/withdraw/cancel any communication made to the candidate(s).

20.The candidates are requested to apply online through the link provided on Institute's website www.iipsindia.ac.in. The candidates are required to take a printout of entire application and should submit 2 sets of application along with all documents or else application will not be considered. Handwritten application will be rejected without giving any reason.

21.Applications which are not in conformity with the requirement or which are received after due date will be rejected. The applications which are not in a prescribed form or not accompanied by required certificates, photographs etc., will be rejected.

• The research score shall be from the ~inimum  of three categories out of six categories.
